The Biology of Money framework in a mathematically model

To translate the Biology of Money framework into a mathematically rigorous model, we must shift away from central bank interest-rate formulas (which track inflation and employment) and construct homeostatic feedback loops. These equations tie monetary creation, fees, and velocity directly to the carrying capacity and health of the biosphere.

A formal mathematical architecture for a bio-monetary feedback system.

Step 1: The Aggregate Ecological Health Index ($E_t$)

First, we define a continuous metric representing the state of the local or global ecosystem at time $t$. Let $E_t$ be a composite index normalized between $0$ (total ecological collapse) and $1$ (optimal homeostasis):

$$E_t = w_1 S_t + w_2 G_t + w_3 B_t$$

Where:

Let $E^*$ represent the homeostatic target or sustainable carrying capacity baseline established by biophysical limits. The systemic "ecological gap" is defined as:

$$\Delta E_t = E_t - E^*$$

Step 2: Dynamic Issuance Function ($I_t$)

In a conventional debt-based economy, money is issued against debt (generating forced growth). In a living monetary system, base purchasing power is issued as a direct reward for verified net ecological regeneration, and contracted when extraction occurs.

We define the net issuance rate of new currency units ($\Delta M_t$) as a piecewise response function to ecological change:

$$I_t = \begin{cases} \alpha \cdot \left(\frac{\Delta E_t}{E^*}\right) & \text{if } \Delta E_t > 0 \quad (\text{Regeneration phase}) \\ -\beta \cdot \left\vert{}\frac{\Delta E_t}{E^*}\right\vert{} & \text{if } \Delta E_t \le 0 \quad (\text{Extractive / Deficit phase}) \end{cases}$$

Step 3: Dynamic Transaction Fee & Demurrage Function ($F_t$)

To enforce metabolic circulation (preventing hoarding and financial clots), money can carry an automated demurrage (decay rate) or transaction fee that scales dynamically based on ecosystem stress.

If ecosystem health degrades ($E_t < E^*$), transaction friction on extractive supply chains must increase to force localized adaptation. We model the dynamic fee rate $F_t$ as an exponential decay/friction curve:

$$F_t = f_0 \cdot \exp\left( -k \left( \frac{E_t}{E^*} - 1 \right) \right)$$

Where:

Systemic Behavior of $F_t$:

Step 4: Velocity Incentive & Metabolic Flow ($V_t$)

Living systems require continuous fluid motion; stagnation causes decay. To discourage dead capital accumulation (wealth sitting passively in speculative vaults), we introduce a velocity decay function linked to the ecological index.

Let the holding penalty (demurrage) applied to idle balances $B_i$ over time interval $\Delta t$ be:

$$\frac{dB_i}{dt} = - \lambda(E_t) \cdot B_i$$

Where the decay rate $\lambda(E_t)$ is inversely proportional to ecological health:

$$\lambda(E_t) = \lambda_0 + \theta \cdot \max\left(0, 1 - \frac{E_t}{E^*}\right)$$

The Complete Feedback Loop Architecture

By linking Equations 1 through 4, we formed a closed-loop cybernetic system:

$$\text{Human Economic Activity} \xrightarrow{\text{Impacts}} E_t \xrightarrow{\text{Modulates}} \begin{cases} I_t & (\text{Minting / Destruction}) \\ F_t & (\text{Friction / Fees}) \\ \lambda(E_t) & (\text{Velocity / Demurrage}) \end{cases} \xrightarrow{\text{Directs}} \text{Human Economic Activity}$$

This mathematical structure ensures that the monetary system acts as a true biological organ: it rewards life-generating actions with expansion and liquidity, while starving extractive actions of velocity and capital.

$$\text{Human Economic Activity} \xrightarrow{\text{Impacts}} E_t \xrightarrow{\text{Modulates}} \begin{cases} I_t & (\text{Minting / Destruction}) \\ F_t & (\text{Friction / Fees}) \\ \lambda(E_t) & (\text{Velocity / Demurrage}) \end{cases} \xrightarrow{\text{Directs}} \text{Human Economic Activity}$$

This mathematical structure ensures that the monetary system acts as a true biological organ: it rewards life-generating actions with expansion and liquidity, while starving extractive actions of velocity and capital.

How we should rewrite the model as a coherent

BioCoin V2.1 - Biological Monetary Feedback Model,

incorporating the stability, normalization, and regenerative-finance fixes while preserving the central idea that money follows ecosystem health.

The Biology of Money: BioCoin V2.1

1. Ecosystem Health Index

The ecological state of a territory is measured by a normalized composite index:

Et=wSS^t+wGG^t+wBB^tE_t = w_S \hat S_t + w_G \hat G_t + w_B \hat B_t

where

wS+wG+wB=1w_S+w_G+w_B=1

and

S^t=StS∗,G^t=GtG∗,B^t=BtB∗\hat S_t=\frac{S_t}{S^*}, \qquad \hat G_t=\frac{G_t}{G^*}, \qquad \hat B_t=\frac{B_t}{B^*}

with:

Thus:

Et=1E_t = 1

represents the desired ecological equilibrium.

2. Ecological Momentum

To avoid reacting to short-term noise, define a smoothed ecological signal:

Eˉt=(1−γ)Eˉt−1+γEt\bar E_t = (1-\gamma)\bar E_{t-1} + \gamma E_t

where

0<γ<10<\gamma<1

is the responsiveness parameter.

The ecological change is then:

ΔEt=Eˉt−Eˉt−1\Delta E_t = \bar E_t-\bar E_{t-1}

3. Currency Issuance (Minting)

New currency is issued only when ecosystem health improves.

Mintt=max⁡(0,α⋅ΔEt)Mint_t = \max\left( 0, \alpha \cdot \Delta E_t \right)

subject to:

Mintt≤Mintmax⁡Mint_t \le Mint_{\max}

or alternatively:

Mintt=Mmax⁡tanh⁡(αΔEtE∗)Mint_t = M_{\max} \tanh \left( \alpha \frac{\Delta E_t}{E^*} \right)

for bounded emissions.

Interpretation:

4. Ecological Burn Mechanism

Ecological deterioration removes currency from circulation.

Burnt=max⁡(0,β(−ΔEt))Burn_t = \max \left( 0, \beta(-\Delta E_t) \right)

subject to

Burnt≤Burnmax⁡Burn_t \le Burn_{\max}

Money supply evolves according to:

Mt+1=Mt+Mintt−BurntM_{t+1} = M_t + Mint_t - Burn_t

This separates rewards and penalties into clear biological processes.

5. Regenerative Transaction Design

A healthy biological system does not starve damaged tissues.

Therefore transaction costs distinguish between regenerative and extractive activities.

Regenerative Transactions

Freg=frF_{reg} = f_r

where frf_r is low and nearly constant.

Examples:

Extractive Transactions

Fext,t=feexp⁡[−k(EtE∗−1)]F_{ext,t} = f_e \exp \left[ -k \left( \frac{E_t}{E^*} -1 \right) \right]

As ecological health deteriorates:

Et<E∗E_t<E^*

the cost of extractive activity rises.

Thus the system discourages further damage while preserving liquidity for regeneration.

6. Ecological Demurrage

Idle money incurs a circulation cost linked to ecosystem condition.

λ(Et)=min⁡(λmax⁡,λ0+θmax⁡(0,1−EtE∗))\lambda(E_t) = \min \left( \lambda_{\max}, \lambda_0 + \theta \max \left( 0, 1-\frac{E_t}{E^*} \right) \right)

where:

Interpretation:

7. Restoration Allocation Function

A portion of all newly minted currency is automatically directed toward restoration.

Rt=ρ⋅MinttR_t = \rho \cdot Mint_t

where

0<ρ<10<\rho<1

Examples:

This creates a direct biological repair loop.

8. System Feedback Loop

The complete biological monetary cycle becomes:

Et→(ΔEt)→(Mintt,Burnt)→Mt→Economic Activity→Restoration→Et+1E_t \rightarrow (\Delta E_t) \rightarrow (Mint_t, Burn_t) \rightarrow M_t \rightarrow Economic\ Activity \rightarrow Restoration \rightarrow E_{t+1}

This is a closed ecological-economic feedback system.

Fundamental Principle

Conventional money is created through debt.

BioCoin is created through regeneration.

Formally:

dMdt∝dEdt

where:
In simple terms:
The growth of money should be proportional to the growth of ecological health.
The model introduces a composite ecosystem-health index based on indicators such as:
These indicators are incorporated into a cybernetic feedback system that rewards regeneration and discourages ecological degradation.
The proposed monetary framework, tentatively called BioCoin, includes:
The project draws from multiple disciplines, including:
The long-term objective is to create practical tools that align economic incentives with ecosystem regeneration, supporting communities, municipalities, conservation projects, regenerative agriculture, and circular economies.

\frac{dM}{dt} \propto \frac{dE}{dt}

The growth of money is linked not to financial leverage but to improvements in the living systems that sustain the economy.

In one sentence:

BioCoin transforms ecological regeneration into the monetary base, while ecological degradation contracts the money supply and raises the cost of extractive activity, creating a self-correcting biological economy.
